Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about buying, making and the legality of designer-inspired perfume formulas.

Buying & access

What do I receive when I buy a formula?+

Instant, lifetime access to the complete bench-ready formula: every material with its CAS number and exact percentage, gram-per-100g figures, a live batch calculator, maceration and dilution instructions, and IFRA notes. You can view it on screen and download a watermarked PDF any time.

Do I need an account?+

Yes — a free account stores your purchases so you can access your formulas and re-download PDFs at any time, on any device. You can sign up with email or Google in seconds during checkout.

Can I re-download a formula later?+

Always. Your purchases are permanent and tied to your account, with lifetime re-downloads of the on-screen formula and the watermarked PDF.

What currencies can I pay in?+

You can browse and check out in USD, AUD, EUR, GBP. Use the currency selector in the header; checkout uses your selected currency, with tax handled automatically where applicable.

Making the fragrances

What equipment do I need?+

A precision scale reading to 0.01 g, glass beakers and pipettes, perfumer's alcohol for dilution, and small storage bottles. That's enough to make every formula on the site.

Where do I buy the ingredients?+

All materials are stocked by the major hobby-perfumery suppliers across the US, EU, UK and Australia. Each material includes its CAS number for unambiguous ordering, and our Ingredients Guide lists trusted suppliers by region.

How much fragrance will a formula make?+

Formulas are given per 100 g of concentrate, and the on-screen calculator scales to any batch size. Diluted to around 20% in perfumer's alcohol, a 100 g concentrate batch makes roughly 500 g of finished eau de parfum.

Why does my fragrance smell rough at first?+

Freshly mixed concentrates often smell harsh and disjointed. Maceration — resting the blend in a cool, dark place for two to four weeks — lets the materials marry and is essential, especially for amber and oriental formulas.

Legality & compliance

Are these the real designer fragrances?+

No. Every formula is an original reconstruction — our own interpretation built to evoke the character of a well-known fragrance for personal, educational use. We are not affiliated with any fragrance house, and brand names are used only to describe the style a formula explores.

Is it legal to make a clone formula?+

Yes, for personal use. Fragrance scents are not protected by copyright, and our formulas are original — not the houses' confidential formulae. Trademarks protect names and logos, which is why we say 'inspired by' and never use brand logos. If you intend to sell, avoid trademarked names and check IFRA limits.

What about IFRA compliance?+

Each formula includes IFRA notes. Percentages describe the concentrate; skin-level exposure depends on the final dilution. For any product you sell or gift, check current IFRA Standards for restricted materials. For personal use, always patch-test and follow supplier safety data.

Refunds & support

Can I get a refund?+

Because formulas are digital and delivered instantly, we don't offer change-of-mind refunds. We will refund or correct any formula containing a genuine material error within 7 days. See our refund policy for full details.

My purchase didn't appear — what do I do?+

Use the 'Restore my purchase' button on the checkout success page or in your account. It re-checks Stripe for any completed payment under your email and reinstates access automatically. If you're still stuck, contact support.

How do I contact you?+

Email support@scentformulas.com and we'll help. We aim to respond within one business day.
